When the supply plumbing reaches the end of its life, patching it one leak at a time stops making sense. We replace the whole system in PEX-A or copper.
The clearest signal is repetition. One leak is an event; three in two years is a system telling you it is finished. Other markers: the plumbing is Poly B or more than fifty years old, pressure has been falling across the whole house rather than at one fixture, or the water discolours after sitting overnight.
In older Vancouver homes the pipe we are replacing is as often corroded galvanised as it is Poly B, and galvanised silts itself half-closed long before it leaks.
We install PEX-A as standard. It is flexible enough to follow existing cavities, which means fewer openings in your walls, it does not corrode, it handles a freeze far better than copper, and its expansion fittings avoid the plastic insert design that made Poly B joints so unreliable. We fit copper whenever a homeowner wants it.
The difference between a repipe you barely notice and one you never stop talking about is planning — so we map every run and agree exactly which openings we will make before anyone picks up a tool.

Permitted work in Vancouver goes through the City of Vancouver. We pull it and book the inspection as part of the job — you do not deal with the city.
The seven signs a house needs repiping, the materials, the process and the timeline.
How repiping works →Much of Vancouver’s detached housing predates the Poly B window entirely — which is why we also find plenty of original galvanised and early copper here. The catch is the 1980s and early 90s: the condos, townhomes and rebuilds from those years sit squarely inside it, and so do a lot of basement suites added in the same period.
Older Vancouver homes tend to have unheated crawlspaces and long runs against exterior walls, which is where the cold snaps find them.
