Garburator Repair in Metro Vancouver

Humming but not turning usually means a jam, and that is often a five-minute fix. Silent and dead, or dripping underneath, is a different conversation.

Jam, Switch, or Genuinely Finished

Garburator faults fall into three buckets, and they have very different costs. A jam or a tripped reset is a quick visit. A failed switch or wiring fault is a small electrical repair. A burnt-out motor or a housing that has rusted through is the end of the unit.

We diagnose which one you have before quoting, because the difference between them is significant and nobody should pay repair rates for a unit that needs replacing.

  • ✓Jams cleared — and we check what caused it so it does not repeat next week.
  • ✓Leaks traced — flange, discharge and dishwasher connections are all fixable.
  • ✓Switch and power faults — often the real problem when a unit seems dead.
  • ✓Honest replace advice — a corroded housing cannot be sealed, and we will say so.

FAQs

Garburator Questions

The motor is getting power but the grinding plate is jammed. There is usually a hex socket underneath the unit that lets you free it by hand, and a red reset button that has probably tripped. Turn the power off at the breaker before anyone puts a hand near the opening. If it frees up and runs, you are done; if it jams again immediately, something is broken inside.
Not necessarily. Check the reset button on the underside, then the breaker, then the switch itself — failed switches are more common than failed motors. If power is confirmed at the unit and it still does nothing, the motor has usually gone, and at that point replacement is almost always cheaper than repair.
It depends where. Leaks at the sink flange or at the discharge and dishwasher connections are normal repairs. A leak from the body of the unit itself means the internal housing has corroded through, and that cannot be sealed — the unit needs replacing.
Fats, oils and grease, which solidify further along the pipe; fibrous material like celery, corn husks and onion skins, which wrap the plate; coffee grounds and eggshells, which build up into a sludge; rice and pasta, which swell; and bones. Cold water while running, never hot — hot melts grease so it re-solidifies downstream.
Jams, reset trips, switch failures and connection leaks are worth repairing. A failed motor or a corroded housing is not — parts and labour on those approach the cost of a new unit with a fresh warranty. We will give you both numbers.
