When the supply plumbing in a house reaches the end of its life, patching it one leak at a time stops making sense. We replace the whole system in PEX-A or copper, plan the routes to keep wall damage down, and handle the permit and inspection.
Repiping is a significant job and not every plumbing problem calls for it. These are the situations where it does.
PEX-A is what we install in most homes, and the reasoning is practical rather than ideological. It is flexible enough to follow existing cavities, which means fewer openings in your walls. It does not corrode. It handles a freeze without splitting the way copper does. And its expansion fittings avoid the plastic insert design that made Poly B joints so unreliable.
Copper remains an excellent pipe and we install it whenever a homeowner wants it or the application calls for it. It costs more in material and in labour, and in a retrofit it generally means opening more wall, so we will be straight with you about what the premium is actually buying.
