Heat Pump Water Heater Rebates

Heat pump water heaters are 3× more efficient than standard electric tanks. BC Hydro and CleanBC both offer rebates for qualifying models. With energy savings of 60–70%, most units pay for themselves within 3–5 years even without rebates. This rebate stacks on top of your heat pump rebate.

Common Questions

Rebate FAQs for BC Homeowners

Do I have to pay upfront and then get reimbursed?

Yes, BC Hydro and FortisBC rebates are paid after installation. You pay for the equipment and installation, then we submit the application and BC Hydro / FortisBC sends you a cheque. Some CleanBC income-qualified streams may offer upfront financing — ask us during your consultation.

How long does it take to receive the rebate payment?

Typically 6–12 weeks after a complete application is submitted. We submit promptly after your installation and track the status on your behalf.

What is an HPCN contractor and why does it matter?

The Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) is a certification required by BC Hydro and FortisBC. Only HPCN members are eligible to install rebate-qualifying heat pumps. AceComfort is a certified HPCN member — if you hire a non-HPCN contractor, your rebate application will be rejected.

Can I still get a rebate if I heat with natural gas?

Yes. The CleanBC Home Renovation Rebate offers up to $8,000 for homeowners switching from natural gas or propane to an electric heat pump. This is separate from the BC Hydro / FortisBC utility rebates which require electric baseboard replacement.

Is the Canada Greener Homes Grant still available?

No — the Canada Greener Homes Grant closed to new applications on January 20, 2026. Applications submitted before that date are still being processed. The Greener Homes Loan program remains active. In most cases, BC provincial programs now offer higher amounts than the federal grant did.
