Water Heater Installation

Most tank replacements happen the day the old one fails, which is the worst time to be making decisions. If yours is past ten years, this is worth reading now.

Better a Planned Replacement Than an Emergency One

A tank that fails takes the decision out of your hands. You take whatever can be fitted that day, at whatever price, and you deal with whatever water ended up on the floor. Replacing a tank that is nearing the end of its life, on a day that suits you, is cheaper and calmer.

We size it properly, bring the connections and seismic strapping up to current requirements, take the old tank away, and handle the rebate paperwork.

  • ✓Sized to your household — not to what is on the shelf.

  • ✓Brought up to current requirements — venting, connections, seismic strapping.

FAQs

Water Heater Installation Questions

It depends on how many people live there and how the hot water gets used — two people who shower at different times need far less than a family of five all getting ready at once. For most Metro Vancouver households a 40 or 50 gallon tank is right. We size it against actual usage rather than defaulting to whatever is in stock.
A straight like-for-like swap is usually three to four hours, including draining and removing the old tank. It takes longer when the existing connections, venting or seismic strapping need bringing up to current requirements, which is common on older installs.
Changing fuel type is a bigger job than a swap — it means either new gas and venting, or a new electrical circuit, and sometimes a panel upgrade. It can absolutely be the right move, but it should be a deliberate decision made in advance rather than on the day your old tank fails. Come to us before it does and we can price both.
Yes. We track what is currently available on qualifying high-efficiency models and complete the application as part of the installation. You should not have to chase paperwork for a rebate you earned by buying the better unit.
Water heaters in BC need to be properly secured, and a surprising number of older installations are not, or use strapping that has corroded. We bring it up to current requirements as part of any install — it is not an optional extra.
