Drain & Sewer Camera Inspection

Roots, a bellied section, scale, a crack and a plug of grease all look identical from the top of the pipe. A camera is the only thing that tells them apart.

The Only Way to Know What Is Actually In There

A cleared drain tells you the line is open today. It tells you nothing about why it closed, and therefore nothing about whether it will close again.

A camera answers that. Roots need a different response from a bellied section; a hard grease layer needs jetting rather than cabling; a cracked or offset joint is a different conversation entirely. Each of those produces exactly the same symptom at the sink.

We locate defects from the surface as well, so if a line does need excavating, the digging happens in the right place.

  • ✓Footage you keep — plus a written summary of what was found and where.
  • ✓Defects located and marked — position and depth from the surface, not a guess.
  • ✓Pre-purchase sewer scopes — the check a standard home inspection does not include.
  • ✓Perimeter drains too — silted versus collapsed is a camera question.

What a Camera Shows

  • Root intrusion at joints
  • Bellied or sagging sections holding water
  • Cracked, offset or collapsed pipe
  • Hard grease and scale build-up
  • Foreign objects and debris
  • Pipe material and approximate condition
  • The exact position and depth of a defect
  • Whether a blockage was a one-off

Camera Inspection Questions

Three situations. When a drain has blocked more than once, because something is causing that. When a main line has backed up, because the cause changes what happens next. And before buying a house, because a sewer line is expensive and invisible and nobody else is going to check it.
In an established Metro Vancouver neighbourhood with mature trees and an older line, it is one of the better-value checks available. A standard home inspection does not put a camera down the sewer. Finding roots or a collapsed section before you own it is the difference between a negotiation and a surprise.
Yes, and you should insist on it from anyone. You get the video and a written summary of what we found and where. It is yours — for your records, for an insurer, for a buyer, or to take to an excavation contractor for a quote.
Yes. The camera carries a transmitter and we locate it from the surface, so we can mark the position and depth of a defect. That matters enormously if the line does end up needing excavation — digging in the right spot is cheaper than exploring.
Yes, and it is worth doing at the same time as a flush. It is how you tell the difference between a line that is silted (flushing works) and one that is crushed or collapsed (flushing will never work). More on perimeter drains.
